Banks Banks are generally open 9:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday, except on public holidays. However, many banks run branches along main shopping streets and in malls which have extended opening hours and also open on Saturdays. All major credit cards can be used and travellers cheques are accepted at hotels, banks and some retail stores. Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) are widely available.

Buses Dunedin’s public bus services operate from the city to all suburbs and outlying centres. The GoCard stores your money for bus travel, and by using it you automatically receive a discount on the cash fare. Coach services run daily to other areas in Otago, as well as Canterbury and Southland. Disabled access The law requires new buildings to provide access for people with disabilities. To obtain a Mobility Parking Permit phone +64 3 477 4117.

Parking Dunedin has numerous off-street public car parking areas – a map is available to view at http://www.dunedin.govt.nz/services/parking/where-you-can-park. Main car parks include Dowling Street Car Park, Filleul St Car Park, Frederick St Car Park, Great King Street Car Park Building, Library Car Park, Moray Place Car Park, Railway Station North Car Park, Railway Station South Car Park, YMCA Car Park Building.

Postal services Post Shops are open during business hours and on Saturday mornings. The main Post Shop is located at 233 Moray Place.

Shopping Throughout New Zealand, most shops are open seven days, usually from 9am to 6pm. Late nights are usually on a Thursday or Friday, although some businesses (especially beauty clinics) have other late nights.

Smoking In New Zealand smoking is prohibited in most public places, including bars and restaurants.

Telephones Public phones can be operated with phone-cards or credit cards. The international dialling code for New Zealand is +64. 0800 and 0508 numbers are free within New Zealand. 0900 numbers incur an additional charge. The area code for the South Island is 03.
