Boutique stores and unique eateries abound in the streets of suburban Dunedin – if you know where to look!
Get out and about and explore Dunedin beyond the central city. A landscape of hills and gullies lends each suburb a distinct feel and you’ll find fascinating boutiques and trendy cafés in all sorts of surprising places!
Roslyn Situated on a steep hill above the town, Roslyn is famous for its beautiful heritage buildings, including Olveston Historic Home and many beautiful villas. A number of fantastic restaurants, cafés and boutiques have emerged in recent years, making this a must-visit destination!
St Clair Down on the waterfront, St Clair offers some of the best surf in New Zealand – though even hardy surfers will need a wetsuit. You’ll find a number of cafés, plus a day spa and hairdresser, making for the perfect day at the beach!
South Dunedin The only flat area in Dunedin is a colourful suburb that’s fantastic for second-hand book and variety stores. It’s home to Carisbrook Stadium, Dunedin’s former main sporting venue for cricket and rugby (also known as The House of Pain for its reputation as a difficult venue for visiting teams!). This year, Carisbrook Stadium will be closed and replaced by the brand-new Forsyth Barr Stadium at University Plaza in North Dunedin which will host three matches of the Rugby World Cup 2011!
