Set your toes a-tapping with the strains of Celtic folk band Rua at Harbour Light on December 17. Rua are past winners of various awards, including two Tuis for Best Folk Album of the Year, recognising their contemporary Celtic take on all genres of music and the strength of their live performances. Fast becoming known as ‘Rarely Rua’, they choose to play just one concert per year in New Zealand, their annual Christmas Party and a tradition for the group that stretches back many years.

It’s a rare event indeed as all members of the group now pursue their own musical interests from Country Swing to Blues to recording and touring The line up consists of members who haven’t changed for over 15 years- Jon Hooker: guitars, Denny Stanway: vocals and percussion, James Wilkinson: vocals, guitars, bass and Jimmy Young on smallpipes, whistles and percussion – plus Leon Barker (recently returned from overseas) on drums and percussion.

Be sure to come and enjoy the Christmas frolics in this one-off concert from New Zealand’s best-known Celtic heroes!

Rua. 17 December, 7:30pm, starts 8pm. Harbour Light, 24 London Street Lyttelton. Tickets $20-25; table reservations and door sales.
