Just days ago Christchurch couple Norm Fitt and Dee Jordan sadly became the latest victims to senseless driving. Two Cantabrians now want to show the community that they won’t wait for the government to take action. Carolyn Brown and Angeline Boniface have organised an event at Cathedral Square.
On Friday 10 September they invite everyone to come to Cathedral Square at 6:30pm to light up the sky and remember the people who have lost their lives due to drivers fleeing from the police. Carolyn Brown says: “The government can’t cure stupidity, but the community can through education and teaching our youth that their decisions have repercussions.”
People are invited to bring along anything with a light to make Cathedral Square shine brightly as Christchurch remembers the lost lives. It will be a family-friendly event and is also hoped to be the beginning in a change of attitude. Angeline Boniface says: “I want my child to grow up knowing he can get in a car with his friends and be safe.”
Brown Bear reckons the event is an awesome effort and hopes to see heaps of people attend. Let’s make that square shine really brightly!
Bright Lights: 10 September 6:30pm – 7pm
